The 2024 Competition: Final memos
Please note that each team does all three interviews. However they will not necessarily be in this order.
MEMO 1: Gabi/Grant Buxton
To: Solicitors
From: Secretary
Gabi/Grant Buxton called. They said they wanted to discuss an issue regarding a charity they’re involved with, which does great work overseas.
I have carried out a conflict check and found no conflicts. The client has been informed that this interview will cost £75 plus VAT and that any future work carried out by the firm will be charged at £200 plus VAT per hour, unless the client is eligible for public funding.
MEMO 2: Jay Lee
To: Solicitors
From: Secretary
I have made an appointment for you to see Jay Lee. They want advice on a draft agreement, and they seemed rather anxious. They said they could only spend 45 minutes with you because they didn’t want it to cost the earth, and they had to be somewhere else anyway!

MEMO 3: Dani/ Danny Steele
The topic for the International Client Consultation Competition Final hosted jointly by Poland and Ukraine this year is International Humanitarian Law. In view of this, we have included this topic in this scenario. We appreciate that it will be new to most students, so we are attaching a brief note on the law that may be relevant to this particular scenario. The usual caveats apply: it is not possible to provide a full and comprehensive summary of all possible legal aspects to this scenario, and the competition judging criteria are of course wider than advising on the law.
Dani/Danny Steele called. They said they wanted to discuss an issue regarding a suspected war criminal who is alleged to have committed war crimes and/or crimes against humanity and needs to be dealt with.
